TDOT Breaks Down Major Road Projects Across Middle Tennessee

TDOT Regional Communications Officer Erin Ziegler joins us to talk about some of the biggest road projects happening across Middle Tennessee and what drivers can expect in the years ahead.

We cover the North Thompson Lane widening project in Murfreesboro, Highway 99 and New Salem Highway improvements, future work along Old Fort Parkway, I-24 resurfacing, La Vergne interchange improvements, Franklin road projects, the I-65 corridor study, Nashville’s downtown interstate loop, and upcoming work connected to the East Bank.

Erin also explains how TDOT’s 10-year plan works, how road projects are funded, why utility relocation can slow construction, how potholes and maintenance issues are handled, and how residents can provide feedback on future transportation projects.

One of the biggest updates is the North Thompson Lane project, which stretches more than four miles from Northwest Broad Street to Memorial Boulevard. Preliminary work is underway, with the project currently expected to reach substantial completion in summer 2030.

If you have questions about road projects around Middle Tennessee, leave them in the comments and we may cover them in a future update.

How C12 Helps Christian Business Owners Build Better Businesses With Greater Purpose

Can your business be more than just a way to make money?

In this conversation, we sit down with Trent Messick, a longtime Murfreesboro entrepreneur and C12 Chair, to talk about how Christian business owners can build successful companies while using their businesses to serve their employees, their communities, and a greater purpose.

Trent shares his journey from growing up in a family business in Murfreesboro to becoming an entrepreneur, helping start Portico, and eventually joining C12. Today, he works with local business owners and key leaders who want to grow stronger businesses while applying biblical principles to the way they lead.

We talk about what actually happens inside a C12 group, why business ownership can feel lonely, the value of having trusted peers who understand the challenges of leadership, and why accountability is so important for business owners.

Trent also shares practical examples of companies caring for employees through corporate chaplains, employee care funds, community service, prayer, and other programs designed to help people beyond simply providing a paycheck.

One of the biggest ideas from our conversation is simple: business and ministry do not have to be separate. Your business itself can become the platform through which you serve people.

We also discuss:

• What C12 is and how its peer advisory groups work
• Why C12 combines business growth with Christian principles
• The importance of mission, vision, and core values
• Why business owners need trusted peers and accountability
• How companies can better care for their employees
• Developing the next generation of leaders inside a company
• Finding balance between business, family, health, and faith
• Why profitability and purpose can work together
• How local businesses can make a lasting impact on Murfreesboro
• Trent’s vision for seeing Middle Tennessee businesses become a force for good in the community

For business owners and leaders who have wondered how their faith should influence the way they run their company, this conversation offers plenty to think about.
