Big changes are coming to internet service in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County! United Communications is investing approximately $85 million to expand its high-speed fiber internet network throughout Murfreesboro, bringing more residents and businesses access to faster speeds and locally based customer service.

Murfreesboro Cold Patrol is doing much more than helping people survive cold winter nights. This local nonprofit is working year-round to help individuals experiencing homelessness find permanent housing, employment, addiction recovery services and a path toward a better future.

We sat down with Jordan, Executive Director of Murfreesboro Cold Patrol, to learn more about the organization’s mission, the lives they’re changing and how the Rutherford County community can get involved.

Jordan shares inspiring success stories, discusses the challenges of helping people experiencing homelessness during extreme heat and cold, and explains why building trust is such an important part of their outreach efforts.

Major changes could be coming to Nashville’s downtown interstate loop as the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) studies potential improvements to traffic flow, interstate ramps, and congestion throughout the area.

In this update, we discuss TDOT’s Downtown Inner Loop Study and what it could mean for drivers traveling through downtown Nashville.

The study is examining several potential improvements, including better interstate entrance and exit ramps, improved ramp spacing, roadway design upgrades, and ways to reduce congestion.

Another round of public input is expected in early November 2026, with the study anticipated to wrap up in early 2027. Recommendations will then be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration for further consideration.

It’s important to remember that these improvements are still in the planning stages. Any proposed projects would require additional reviews, funding, and TDOT approval before moving forward.

TDOT Regional Communications Officer Erin Ziegler joins us to talk about some of the biggest road projects happening across Middle Tennessee and what drivers can expect in the years ahead.

We cover the North Thompson Lane widening project in Murfreesboro, Highway 99 and New Salem Highway improvements, future work along Old Fort Parkway, I-24 resurfacing, La Vergne interchange improvements, Franklin road projects, the I-65 corridor study, Nashville’s downtown interstate loop, and upcoming work connected to the East Bank.

Erin also explains how TDOT’s 10-year plan works, how road projects are funded, why utility relocation can slow construction, how potholes and maintenance issues are handled, and how residents can provide feedback on future transportation projects.

One of the biggest updates is the North Thompson Lane project, which stretches more than four miles from Northwest Broad Street to Memorial Boulevard. Preliminary work is underway, with the project currently expected to reach substantial completion in summer 2030.
